In June 2018, the public health and welfare sector was the economic sector that employed the largest amount of women, with 77 per cent of workers being female. Skilled personnel in caring professions, in particular in education and nursing, provides early education and equal opportunities for children, and ensures that old and sick people are cared for professionally. This in turn allows millions of parents and relatives to pursue gainful employment. The Federal Government aims at establishing professions in care as attractive career paths and at having more men pursue careers in this sector. The requirements for these professions will increase and they will become increasingly professional. It pays off to invest in skilled workers.
